Inspiration and Design

The NAVIGATOR name is inspired by physicist Enrico Fermi and his place in the history of science. When Fermi started the first nuclear reactor, the US president received a coded message: “The Italian Navigator has just landed in the new world.” This bass is created as a tribute to his legacy. The instrument features a unique body shape designed for optimal balance and playability, with carefully positioned Markbass pickups to offer a wide tonal range.

Materials and Craftsmanship

The body is made exclusively from spruce sourced from Val di Fiemme, known for its low weight and resonance, contributing to a lightweight and responsive instrument. The F1 Navigator series draws inspiration from Formula 1 and is crafted with artisanal precision, combining Italian tradition with modern innovation.

Electronics and Sound

Markbass’ proprietary P and HB pickups are positioned to deliver extensive tonal options. The humbucker at the bridge is split-coil capable for a variety of sounds, from classic P-bass punch to a fuller tone. The active/passive MB Instrument PRE preamp provides clear frequencies without volume changes when switching modes.

Details and Hardware

Markbass mainly uses its own components, focusing on quality, from tuners to bridge parts. This follows founder Marco De Virgiliis’ philosophy of maintaining control over all instrument parts. Most hardware is Made in Italy, complemented by carefully selected high-quality market components.
