Microphone Preamplifier – 8-Channel Unit from Line Audio Design

This 8-channel microphone preamplifier from Swedish manufacturer Line Audio Design is built with carefully designed circuitry for neutral and detailed audio reproduction. The design is entirely DC-coupled, except for matched plastic film capacitors at the inputs. It features a low-noise, discrete class A input stage with matched transistors, followed by low-noise, low-distortion output amplifiers.

Transparent Signal Path with Precision Circuit Design

To ensure high audio quality, the signal path is kept short and transparent throughout. The inputs are electronically balanced XLR connectors with 48V phantom power, capable of supplying full current to all channels simultaneously without voltage drop or added noise.

All XLR connectors are gold-plated Neutrik originals. The outputs are electronically balanced and include a slow DC offset servo. To minimize noise and distortion, the preamp’s input stage offers two fixed gain levels, with the gain potentiometer placed further down the signal path for optimized performance.

Power Supply and Additional Features

The unit is powered by an external power adapter (48V DC, 0.5A) and includes a switchable high-pass filter at 100 Hz with 12 dB/octave. Other filter frequencies are available upon request. Gain settings can be selected at either 60 dB or 40 dB, and unbalanced output is available via XLR connectors.
