Fen-tone™ is a ribbon microphone developed for capturing instruments in studio environments. Inspired by the design language of 1950s microphones, it combines classic aesthetics with modern components. The microphone is built to handle high sound pressure levels and reproduce low frequencies, mids, and treble in a natural and balanced way.

Its compact format makes placement easy near guitar cabinets, drum kits, brass instruments, or acoustic instruments. The figure-8 polar pattern allows control over both direct and reflected sound.

Switch Between Passive and Active Mode

Fen-tone offers two operating modes: a passive mode (VT) where the microphone functions as a traditional ribbon mic without power, and an active mode (+dB) that engages an internal JFET preamp with +26 dB gain. The active mode requires 48V phantom power and is useful when connecting directly to audio interfaces or mixers with limited gain. Important: phantom power must only be used in active mode.

Components with High Manufacturing Standards

The ribbon element is crafted in Japan from 99.1% aluminum and measures just 1.8 microns in thickness. Centrally mounted between the poles of a strong neodymium magnet, it provides consistent performance from both sides with no tonal bias. A CineMag transformer, made in the USA, helps preserve the ribbon character and ensures compatibility with modern preamps.

The microphone’s metal housing is built to withstand frequent use in demanding studio situations.
