Ibanez SRAS7-CBS 7-String Hybrid Bass

The SRAS7-CBS from Ibanez Bass Workshop is a 7-string hybrid bass that combines both fretted and fretless playing techniques in one instrument. It is designed to offer a wide tonal range and the ability to switch seamlessly between different playing styles.

Hybrid Construction – Fretted and Fretless

The right-hand side of the fingerboard is fretted, allowing for rhythmic and percussive styles such as slap bass. The left-hand side is fretless for smooth transitions and expressive soloing. The fingerboard is made from two different woods – rosewood for the fretted section and bubinga for the fretless – each with a custom radius for optimal feel: 950 mmR on the fretted side and flat (0 mmR) on the fretless side.

Neck and Body

The neck features a seven-piece maple, walnut, and bubinga construction, bolted with five screws for stability and efficient transfer of string vibrations. The body combines a poplar burl and ash top with an okoume back. A deep cutaway provides easy access to the highest frets.

Electronics and Pickups

The fretted section uses two SRA Super J pickups developed specifically for this model, while the fretless section features an AeroSilk piezo system for an acoustic-inspired tone. A 3-way selector switch allows you to choose between magnetic pickups, piezo, or a blend of both.

Playing Comfort Details

The SRAS7 is equipped with separate bridges for the fretted and fretless sections, each with individually adjusted string spacing. A removable thumb rest provides two different playing positions. The bass comes with a custom hard case.
